Back when I was still a student, many years ago, whenever I saw Art at a meeting or event, he was always encouraging me to write more and help in the work of the Economics Commission.

My very first published piece in People's World, about youth unemployment, was actually written at Art's urging in 2007. It appeared in the "People Before Profits" column. So I offer my appreciation to him and his memory for helping put me on the path to where I am. I'm sure many, many people will have such stories to share.

We are in desperate need of more people like Art in the world. He moved New Haven and the union forward. Everything we do now and in the future is with power that he was fundamental in building.

Art's commitment to the city of New Haven and Ward 24 are second to none.  He spoke out against injustices of all kinds and really worked towards creating a better community for everyone.  His fervor and tenacity are irreplaceable and will be sorely missed.

My fondest memories of Art came through my mom when she lived in Chicago in an apartment across the alley from Art and a group of others.  She would regularly tell me about the care the group gave to her, watching out for her safety and health.  She told me of the evenings spent playing the game Art created, "anti-monopolycoalition", and the uproarious fun they had.

I also remember Art's coming to Philly on various occasions to speak at our Social Science Forum and what a wealth of information he left with us.

His revolutionary advice and spirit, and his friendship will always continue to live in my heart and mind.

I know Art's life and work will live on and be carried on in the work of the CPUSA for ages to come.

One of my favorite memories of Art is when the two of us stayed late at the People's Center to install new wiring and made a mistake and had to go back and re-install the whole thing. Neither of us minded, because we had more time to chat in between tasks. Nobody talks about all of the quotidian things that help make a revolution, but someone has to hold the camera or knock on doors or drive people to-and-fro or make sure everything is in good working order, and in addition to, or perhaps because of, all of his brilliant contributions as an economist and computer scientist and club leader and organizer, I think Art knew that better than anyone. What an amazing legacy.

I attended many meetings with Art, in NY, Chicago and elsewhere, and usually when fatigue, frustration and irritation were overtaking my mind and sapping my morale, Art would take the podium and set the meeting back on course. He always took time to speak with me and we always found ourselves in hearty agreement. I shan't forget him.

We carry on, not as well, certainly, but  because of Art a little wiser.

I never met a more unwavering, positive, visionary yet level-headed soul whose caring for community and justice showed every single day. I can't begin to imagine where we would be without his contributions. Art Perlo, PRESENTE!

I will always treasure the memories I have with Art. He was a funny, kind, compassionate soul. Whenever I think of him I smile. He was a special guy. He made the world a better place and I'm lucky to have known him.

Art was a steady and reliable Marxist, one who stood the test of time. We are considerably richer, smarter and more durable by his contributions.
